Holiday Drinks at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Some new holiday cocktails have turned up at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the last few days. Gone are the Sleigh Ride and Snowball from Christmases past, and in their place we have the Gumdrop and Berry Merry Margarita.

We unfortunately did not have the chance to try these cocktails, but both look like they’d be on the sweet side.  If you’re spending the holidays at the World and have a chance to try either of  them, we’d love to hear what you think.

Grab a Cup of Holiday Cheer at Epcot

Holiday drinks abound at Epcot as part of the “Holidays Around the World” celebration, which offers park guests the opportunity to try several limited time only beverages.  We’re happy to see the Prost! drink stand is back at the Germany pavilion this year, and is once again serving two of our previously featured 12 Drinks of Christmas, Gluhwein and William’s Punch Winter Dream.

Other offerings this year include Cider with Spiced Frangelico being served up at Promenade Refreshments, Limoncello Spritzers at Buono Fiesta, and a Cocoa Candy Cane (hot cocoa with Peppermint Schnapps) at Sugar and Spice Holiday Bakery.

Check out the Disney Food Blog for a complete list of all the delicious drinks and food that will be available this year.

Around the World in 80 Drinks: Drink 4 – Heather and Honey Sidecar

Drink 4 is brought to us by the Crew’s Cup Lounge at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and it’s the Heather and Honey Sidecar.

This drink is a recent addition to the standard lounge menu, and judging from the requests for the recipe that we’ve received, it’s a pretty popular one.  Good good thing you can get it in the lounges and restaurants of most of the resorts on property!  Here’s another shot of one, including a sugar rim, being served up at Boma.

For those who were asking for the recipe, we do have the official one thanks to Holly H.

1 pump Agave Nectar

.75 oz fresh lemon juice

1.5 oz Dewar’s Highlander Honey

.75 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

While this series is focusing on cocktails, it is definitely worth a mention that the Crew’s Cup has one of the most extensive beer menus on property.  You can find the full list over at Beers and Ears, and you’ll see there is something on there to please just about any beer drinker.  It’s definitely a top spot for beer fans to visit. They also have a pretty yummy snack mix too, and hopefully they’re passing some out the day you stop by.

Nuts, crackers, wasabi peas. Yum!

For Drink 5, we’re going Hollywood.  Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be exact.

Thanks to Lori W and Holly H for additional photos.

Seasonal Drinks at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar

Looks like Disneyland isn’t going to let Walt Disney World have all the cocktail fun this holiday season.  Via the Disney Parks Blog, we see that Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar has added three holiday cocktails to their menu.

First up, the Red-Nosed Zebra, described as a “chilly concoction of aged rum, strawberry puree, lemon and lime juices.”

Red Nosed Zebra

Next up, we have Gorilla Nog, made with “honey-flavored whiskey, Sam’s Gorilla Grog, ginger and orange liqueurs.”

Gorilla Nog

Rounding out the trio is the Mele Kaliki-Mocha, acombo of iced coffee, cream of coconut and coffee liqueur is topped with whipped cream to make it snowy white.”

If you’d like to try one of these, be sure to stop by Trader Sam’s before January 5th, 2014.

Seasonal Drinks at MacGuffins Bar & Lounge

How about some more holiday cocktails?!  Looks like MacGuffins Bar & Lounge at Downtown Disney’s AMC 24 Theater is also getting into the spirit (and spirits!) this holiday season with a trio of seasonal cocktails.  From their Facebook page:

We’re serving up holiday cheer at our MacGuffins bars starting today! Peppermint Snowball with Godiva Chocolate Vodka, Gingerbread Martini with Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur and Berry Frost with Grey Goose Vodka and PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur!

MacGuffins

A quick visit to the MacGuffins web page provided us with the full list descriptions for these lovely cocktails.

Peppermint Snowball Step into a winter wonderland with a minty mix of decadent GODIVA® Chocolate Infused Vodka, Peppermint Schnapps, half & half and velvety whipped cream.

Gingerbread Martini Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur joins Crème de Cacao, cream of coconut, half & half and a chocolate syrup drizzle for an elegant twist on a holiday classic.

Berry Frost A joyous Grey Goose® Vodka cocktail with luscious crushed raspberries, PAMA® Pomegranate Liqueur and fruit juices topped with Sprite®.

Forget the popcorn, we’re grabbing a couple of these before our next movie!

Drinkspotting: Pear Martini and Harvest Apple at Flying Fish

Tis the season…for seasonal cocktails! This time of year seems to bring us lots of new things to try and we love it!

Our friends Catherine V. and Lori W. recently stopped by the Flying Fish on Disney’s Boardwalk and sent along pics of their seasonal cocktail menu and a couple of the drinks.

FF Seasonal_1

All those sound pretty good, but the Autumn Pear Martini would top our list.

FF Pear

And with the temps dropping a bit here in Florida, a nice hot drink doesn’t sound like a bad idea either, so how about a Harvest Apple?

FF Seasonal Too

If you have a chance to stop by the Flying Fish and try any of these, we’d love to hear what you think!

Around the World in 80 Drinks: Drink 3 – Sicilian Sunset

Pizza

Epcot.  We love it.  And it’s certainly a given we’ll end up there a lot in this series, but we will only have one stop at Via Napoli.  Which brings us Drink 3,  the “Sicilian Sunset.”

Sicilian

A combination of vodka, Orangecello, orange and pineapple juices over shaved ice, this cocktail reminds us of  that childhood treat the “snow cone.”   (Though this one is definitely not for kids.)

Via Napoli’s version of the Lemon Drop also comes in the same frosty format.

Lemon Drop

The presentation of these are fun, and they’re tasty too.   But, at $12.00 a pop, they aren’t exactly cheap.  However, this is Disney World, and we’ve seen worse.  (If you’re a Tables in Wonderland member, put that card to good use here as they accept it.)

Via Napoli is our favorite option for pizza at WDW.  There’s lots of variety in available toppings, some delicious specialty pies, and even though there may be a little sticker shock from seeing a $41.00 pizza on the menu, when you realize that pizza will feed you and three or four of your family/closest friends, it’s really not a bad deal at all.   Lots of great desserts here too, as well as dessert cocktails. We like the  Tiramisu and Cannoli martinis best.

Drink 4 is taking us…well, somewhere.  Haven’t decided where exactly yet, but we’ll all know soon.

Check out our Around the World in 80 Drinks map where we’ll be tracking all the drinks and locations throughout this series!

Drinkspotting: Seasonal Pumpkin-tini at the California Grill

Halloween may be over, but the pumpkin love continues at Walt Disney World!   Our pal Lori W stopped by the California Grill recently and sent us this pic of what appears to be a perfectly acceptable substitute for Thanksgiving dessert, the Seasonal Pumpkin-tini.

Pumkin-Tini

Lori was also kind enough to send along a photo of the ingredients as well so we don’t even have to type them out.

Pumkin

For those who love all things pumpkin spice, this looks like one not to be missed.  If you have a chance to try this limited time specialty cocktail, let us know what you think.

Around the World in 80 Drinks: Drink 2 – Moonshine

PhotoGrid_1382313087592

Drink 2 isn’t actually moonshine, but you probably already knew that.  (This is Disney World after all.)   This Moonshine is a cocktail that we tried this summer at the outdoor/porch bar at House of Blues in Downtown Disney.  A simple combination of vodka, Peach Schnapps, and lemon lime soda, it’s light and not too sweet.  Kind of like a peach soda with a bit of a kick.

IMAG0144_1

It’s not actually moonshine, but it’s not a glass of water either    (even though it looks like one)

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, here’s the recipe for it courtesy of HOB Hollywood online.

  • 1/2 ounce Stolichnaya Vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Peach Schnapps
  • lemon lime soda such as Sprite or 7-Up to fill

As far as the atmosphere of this location, the outdoor environment is decidedly low-key and welcoming.  You can enjoy your drinks right at the bar, sit on the porch and relax, or pull up a chair to one of the several tables in the courtyard out front.  If you’re a live music fan, it’s also a great spot to catch local musicians performing on a small stage out front in the evening hours.

It’s worth a mention that the House of Blues restaurant is one of the few places on property that has a Happy Hour.  In fact, they have two – one in the late afternoon, and one in late evening.  Be sure to head inside for some southern-style cooking and cheap cocktails. (Side note/plea:   Someone please return the Wild Mushroom Pasta to the menu!)

Drink 3 will take us to Epcot.  But where?

Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge Now Open

And the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge is open!  Our friend, and occasional contributor to this blog, Catherine V.  stopped by yesterday and sent along some pics of the new lounge and its offerings to share with you.

A sign on the gate welcomes you to the lounge.

This shot shows the main area of the lounge, which encompasses the outdoor seating section of the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. There is also limited indoor seating as well.

Outside Shot

Walt Disney World has not yet added the full menu to its dining section, but here is a look at some of what is available.  Of course there are specialty cocktails and cocktail flights available, many of which are familiar from the main HBD menu.

Celebrity Flights

This is a shot of the Citizens Take Flight margaritas.  The mango and pomegranate come in sugar-rimmed glasses.

You can also order cocktails (and food) off the main menu of the HBD, which is where you’d find the Diva Martini.

The lounge also has its own limited dining menu, including a few items not found on the main HBD menu.

Food

The Duck Confit Tacos and Prince Edward Island Mussels are pictured below.

This looks like a great place to spend a fall afternoon, and it’s nice to know there is also indoor seating available where you can take in the atmosphere of the restaurant.  If you have a chance to stop by, we’d love to hear what you think.
