“Mixers and Masters” at Downtown Disney’s Festival of the Masters

The Disney Parks Blog  announced today that “artistic cocktails” will be featured at the 38th Annual Festival of the Masters  (Downtown Disney November 8 – 10th)  as part of what they are calling “Mixers and Masters.”   Several dining venues throughout the area (marked with feather banners) will be selling “specialty drinks for sipping and strolling.”

Here’s a look at one of the cocktails to be featured, the Pinkberry Martini at the Wolfgang Puck Cafe.

Some of the other cocktails that will be available are the Caveman Painters Punch at T-Rex Café,  Picasso Punch at Paradiso 37,  the Blue Nile at the Rainforest Café, and Huckleberry Lemonade at Splitsville.

Another feature of “Mixers and Masters” will be the”The Art of Mixology,”  a ten-minute demonstration (three times daily) of what goes into making an artfully delicious cocktail.  These presentations will be held at the Waterside Stage, but no schedule has been provided as of yet.

The hours for the Festival of Masters are: November 8th and 9th  from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and November 10th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission to this event and parking are free.

If you have a chance to try any of these limited time cocktails, we’d love to hear what you think!

Changes to Standard Lounge Menu

Easy WDW is reporting some big changes to the standard lounge menu. Lots of cocktail casualties this go- round.  The ones that have been removed are:

Forever Young – Strawberry Julep – Superfruit Margarita – Scottish Raspberry Lemon Drop – Jameson Irish Whiskey Sour – Red Stag Lemonade – Citrus Infusion – Wildberry Margarita – Tennessee Honey

RIP Scottish Raspberry Lemon Drop.

The following cocktails were added:

Heather & Honey Sidecar: Dewar’s Highlander Honey, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Agave nectar, and fresh lemon juice

Jameson Irish Coffee: Jameson Irish Whiskey with hot coffee and a dollop of whipped cream

Pineapple Caipirinha: Leblon Lechaca, lime, pineapple, and agave nectar

Smoked Turkey: Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon, Red Stag Black Cherry Bourbon, Grenadine, Odwalla Lemonade, with a hint of hickory smoke, garnished with Luxardo Gourmet Marachino Cherries

Superfruit Tequini: Casamigos Blanco Tequila, Cedilla Acai Liqueur, fresh lime juice and agave nectar

So nine cocktails gone, and five gained.  (Although with four missing, there is just enough to fill an extra page front and back and add it in later…hmmm.)    Don’t despair if your favorite cocktail off the old menu is DOA though, you can still try ordering it and if they have what it was made with on hand (or a reasonable substitution) most bartenders can, and will, mix one up for you.

As for beer, some changes have been made there as well, with a few more craft type beers being added, such as New Belgium’s Fat Tire and SweetWater’s 420 IPA.   It’s definitely good to have some better beer options available.

Cove Bar Specialty Drinks

We had a couple friends visiting the Disneyland Resort this past week, and they’ve been kind enough to supply us with pics of some of the cocktails they encountered.   So how about a specialty drink from the Cove Bar at Disney’s California Adventure Park? (Not to be confused with the Cove Bar at the Contemporary Resort.  Did Disney run out of bar names?)

Wait, let’s make it a double.

Cove Bar Special

The Sideshow Novel-Tea (bottom left) is a tea vodka and iced tea-based drink which would certainly make for a refreshing option on a hot summer afternoon.  The Midway Martini (top left) mixes cranberry and apple to create a “cranapple” martini, with an added ginger liqueur twist.

Wouldn’t mind seeing either of these show up at OUR Cove Bar as an option, how about you?

Drinkspotting: Shrunken Zombie Head at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar

It’s been a while since we’ve visited the West Coast for a drink.  We’re definitely overdue, and this is a fun one!    This is the Shrunken Zombie Head (well, in this case it’s TWO Shrunken Zombie Heads – that second one looks like it may just be a half at this point though…) from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Resort.

Shrunken Heads

The Shrunken Zombie Head is Reserve and Aged Rum, tropical juices, Falernum, and cinnamon.   It’s a pricey one at $19.95, but you do get to keep the fun souvenir glass and we hear the drink is pretty potent!
