Beers of the World – Blue Point Toasted Lager

Today’s Beer of the World is Blue Point Toasted Lager by the Blue Point Brewing Company out of Long Island, New York.   We took interest in this particular beer today because we saw it was being served on tap at the new Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar.  It is also served at the Cabana Bar and Beach Club at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, and the ESPN Club.

The website for the Blue Point Brewing Company has a bit of a retro feel to it.   They provide a  lot of information on the company and its beers, and also includes things like suggested beer pairings, recipes, and a small shop.  Here’s what they have to say about the Blue Point Toasted Lager:

The best thing to come out of a brick oven since pizza. Well, we’ve upgraded from our original direct-fire brick kettle, but our flagship Toasted Lager still has the same toasted flavor it was named for. Copper in color, our most popular and unique brew is made from six different malts, including English Pale, Crystal, Munich, Carapils, Wheat, and Belgian Caravienna. Toasted Lager’s balanced flavor of malt and hops makes for easy drinking and the special lager yeast we use produces an exceptional, long-lasting smooth finish.

Blue Point Toasted Lager has a higher average ABV of 5.5%.  The folks at Beer Advocate  gave it a score of 74, which qualifies it for an “Average” rating.   The BA readers aggregate score was a little higher, 81, which earned it a rating of “Good.”   Looking at the choices at Tutto Gusto for beer on tap, this seems like a fairly good option there.

Have you tried Blue Point Toasted Lager?  What did you think?
