A Sneak Peek at the Disney Fantasy’s Animator’s Palate

The Animator’s Palate is a restaurant that has been on every Disney cruise ship in one form or another, and the Fantasy is no exception.  Much of the restaurant looks to have the same feel as the version on the Dream, but there is at least one notable difference I will get to in a moment.

First off, a few pictures.   Here is a look at a typical table setting.

A closer look at one of those adorable Mickey themed chairs and the cute carpet.

Next we have some of the art featured on the walls.  In one section you might find renderings of some undersea creatures,  most notably “Crush” the turtle, who is featured prominently in the Fantasy’s version of Animator’s Palate.

And in another section, some sketches from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Another similarity between the Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream and Fantasy is the dinner menu.  This menu appears to be pretty much identical to that of the menu for restaurant on the Disney Dream.

And in all the versions of the Animator’s Palate, it eventually ends up in beautiful, brilliant color.

But here is where the Fantasy’s version of the Animator’s Palate differs from previous incarnations of the restaurant.  In the Fantasy’s Animator’s Palate, not only do you get to see some of your favorite Disney characters in animated glory, YOU become the animator.  From the Disney Cruise Line website:

Animation Magic: An experience that’s exclusive to the Disney Fantasy, Sorcerer Mickey leads the fun as black and white explodes into color and “Be Our Guest” reaches new heights. Don’t be surprised if your own hand-drawn characters join the colorful production!

First, they have you draw a picture on a placemat like this.

Then they take your character to “animate” it and it joins other guests’ drawings up on the screen.

Your creation might even end up in a scene with a favorite Disney character!

I’ve also uploaded a short video that shows an example of how they might animate your drawings.

Finally, of course, they credit all their guest animators for their contribution to the evening’s entertainment.

So that’s a quick look at the “new” Animator’s Palate on the Disney Fantasy. Looks like a lot of fun.  Are you excited to see your drawings come to life?
