Today’s Beer of the World comes from Desnoes & Geddes Limited in Kingston, Jamaica. It’s called Red Stripe and you can find it at Shutters at Port Royale, located at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. This beer also turns up at some, if not all, of the pool bars at the resorts, and I believe the two water parks.
The Red Stripe website has a small amount of background on the company (it started in 1928 in a soda pop factory), a photo slide show, the Red Stripe Ambassador makes an appearance of course, and they provide links to some of his commercials/videos and to their Facebook page. They have this small blurb about the beer:
Red Stripe Jamaican Lager has a refreshing taste, perfectly balancing malty-sweet and lightly hoppy flavors. The result is a lager that’s crisp, clean and easy to drink. Red Stripe is moderate in body, bitterness, hop aroma and has a low butterscotch
Red Stripe has an ABV of 4.7%. The folks at Beer Advocate and their readers are pretty much in agreement that this beer is “Average” and give it scores of 78 and 71, respectively.
I know I have had this beer, but it’s been so long I unfortunately don’t really remember anything about it. I can definitely agree on one thing though. Hooray Beer!
