Today’s Beer of the World is Longboard Island Lager from the Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii. This beer is served in a few different locations at Walt Disney World, including the Flying Fish Cafe, the Cabana Bar and Beach Club at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, and, of course, the Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.
The Kona Brewing Company has a nice website with a company history, information on all its beers, awards they have received, and suggested food pairings. Here is what they have to say about the Longboard Island Lager:
Longboard Island Lager is a smooth refreshing lager fermented and aged for five weeks at cold temperatures to yield its exceptionally smooth flavor. A delicate, slightly spicy hop aroma complements the malty body of this beer.
This beer has an average ABV of 4.6%, and does fairly well with the folks at Beer Advocate who scored it 81, qualifying it for a “Good” rating. Their readers scored it a little lower, giving it a 78 and an “Average” rating, but a three point difference isn’t much. Personally, I think it’s a pleasant enough tasting lager and wouldn’t hesitate to order it if I was in the mood for a beer.
