Beers of the World – Tsingtao

Tsingtao BeerToday’s “Beer of the World” is  Tsingtao Lager, which you can find at the China Pavillion at Epcot, as well as the Yak and Yeti at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.   This beer is made by the Tsingtao Brewery in Qingdao, China, and also claims to be China’s #1 consumer product export.   From their website:

Tsingtao Lager (pronounced “Ching-Dao”)

Tsingtao Lager has a crisp, slightly malty flavor and nutty sweet taste which complements spicy or flavorful Asian cuisine.

Tsingtao Lager is brewed with the finest all-natural ingredients including domestically-grown hops, high quality barley and spring water from China’s Laoshan mountain region.

This beer has an average ABV of 4.8%, and has a split vote over at Beer Advocate.   While the site gives it a score of 84, which qualifies it for their “Good” rating, the 520 readers who reviewed it are a little less kind, giving it an aggregate score of 67,  which equates to a “Poor” rating.

There are only two beer options at the China Pavillion – the Tsingtao Lager and the Tsingtao Pure Draft.   So if you’re drinking around the world showcase and looking for a beer  in China, give one of them a try and see what you think.
