Location: Disney’s Polynesian Resort – Second Floor
Hours: 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Located on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, next to the restaurant ‘Ohana, is the Tambu Lounge. One of the most popular Walt Disney World drinking spots, it is comprised of a small bar flanked by tiki art, several small tables with wicker chairs, and a big screen television where they often air sporting events. A relaxed environment, it’s a nice place to sit back and enjoy your favorite beverage.
One of our favorite things about the Tambu is the view. With floor to ceiling windows, you can take in the lush grounds of the Polynesian Resort. The Polynesian has some of the prettiest grounds of all the Walt Disney World resorts.
Another great thing about the Tambu is that along with the standard Disney World lounge drink menu, it also offers some specialty drinks and appetizers:
Bacardi Superior Rum, Myers’s Original Dark Rum, Passion Fruit Juice topped with Jack Daniel’s and garnished with a bamboo backscratcher.
- Lapu Lapu
Myer’s Original Dark Rum and Tropical Fruit Juices served in a fresh pineapple topped with Bacardi 151 Rum.
- Island Sunset
Seven Tiki Spiced Rum, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Melon and Peach, combined with Guava Passion Fruit Juice
- Tropical Macaw
Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Midori Melon Liquer, Pineapple Juice, and Cranberry Juice
- Honey Ginger Chicken Wings
- Kona Café’s Lump Crab Cakes served with Asian Tartar Sauce and Pineapple Relish
- Oak-Grilled Tuna Flatbread – Sliced Ahi Tuna on a Grilled Flatbread with Fresh Avacado’s and Cherry Tomatoes
- Crisp Breads and Dips – Flat Wonton, Flatbread and ‘Ohana bread served with sun-dried tomato, roasted red pepper hummus, and baba ghannouj dips
- Luau Sushi Roll – Lump Crab, Avocado, Pineapple and Sushi Rice
We’re partial to the Crisp Breads and Dips appetizer ourselves, and while the Lapu Lapu is probably the best known drink at the Tambu, they make one of the tastiest Pina Coladas we’ve ever had which also happens to come in a pretty cool tiki glass. If you’d like one of the glasses to take home as a souvenir, you can purchase it at the hotel’s gift shop. They are very popular though and do tend to sell out.
We rate the Tambu as one of the best lounges at Walt Disney World for its good drinks, yummy appetizers, comfortable atmosphere and fantastic view. It’s a great place to relax after a long day at the parks or grab a quick drink while waiting for your reservation to be called at ‘Ohana. If you’re there in the evening, you can also grab a “to-go” drink and head down to the Polynesian’s beach to watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom which is a great way to end your day at Disney World.
The next time you’re visiting the mouse, be sure to stop by the Tambu Lounge.
